Susan Synakowski was appointed Interim Primary Elementary School Principal by the Westmoreland Central School District Board of Education on March 23. Her first official day with the district was March 28.

Mrs. Synakowski, an educator for more than 40 years, brings a wealth of experience to the position. She retired as Assistant Superintendent at the Whitesboro Central School District in 2016, a post she held for nearly eight years. Prior to her employment with Whitesboro, she was Assistant Superintendent and Middle School Principal at the Sauquoit Valley Central School District, Principal for Alternative Education at the Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES, a Reading teacher at Midstate Correctional Facility and an English Language Arts teacher at Notre Dame Elementary School, where she started her career.

Mrs. Synakowski has degrees/certifications in Educational Administration, Reading Education (K-12) and Social Studies Education (7-12).

“Teaching children is one of the most important responsibilities,” said Mrs. Synakowski. “I’m happy to be part of the Westmoreland community and an outstanding administrative team.”

In her spare time, Mrs. Synakowski enjoys spending time with family and friends, as well as golf, crocheting, reading and interior decorating. She also raises funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Mrs. Synakowski is temporarily replacing Mrs. O’Connell, who retired as Primary Elementary School Principal on April 1.
