Jessica Maine was appointed as the new Primary Elementary School Principal by the Westmoreland Central School District Board of Education on May 11. She will officially assume the position on July 1.
For the last 11 years, Mrs. Maine has worked at the Oneida City School District at the elementary level. She is currently a special education teacher.
Mrs. Maine credits her time at Oneida and her educational experience for developing a student-focused approach to teaching and learning. She is excited to learn alongside, and make a positive impact on, the Westmoreland community.
“From my visits and conversations with leaders, teachers, parents and staff, it is very clear that Westmoreland is a strong community of families dedicated to student success,” said Mrs. Maine. “I am looking forward to being part of an incredible team.”
Mrs. Maine earned her Master’s degree in Special Education in 2012 and Certificate of Advanced Study in School Building Leadership and School District Leadership in 2014 – both from Utica College. A lifelong resident of the Mohawk Valley, she currently resides in Chittenango with her husband, Chris, chocolate lab, Mia, and cat, Biggie.
“I am eager to hit the ground running and get to know everyone,” added Mrs. Maine. “Please know my door will always be open to support students and their families. Stay tuned for information on a fun summer event, ‘Pop into the Maine Event,’ to meet me!”
Mrs. Maine replaces Mrs. Mary Anne O’Connell, who retired on April 1. Mrs. Susan Synakowski has been serving as Interim Primary Elementary School Principal.
