After 13 years at Westmoreland, another class is ready to tackle the future.
The 118th Annual High School Commencement took place on Friday, June 18, outside on the football field. Due to New York State relaxing most COVID-19 protocols the day before, the ceremony was open to the public and an unlimited number of family and friends were able to attend.
The Class of 2021 entered the football field to “Pomp and Circumstance,” which was performed by the Jr./Sr. High School Concert Band. The Jr./Sr. High School Select Chorus sang the National Anthem and Alma Mater. The band, directed by Mrs. Cutler, also performed “Arabian Dances,” while the chorus, directed by Mrs. Davis, also sang “You Will Be Found.”
Graduates Ella Richards-Simon and Matthew Kelsey, as well as Class President Clare Calogero, addressed their classmates. Board of Education President Mr. Acee, Superintendent of Schools Mr. Migliori and Jr./Sr. High School Principal Mr. Saxton also offered remarks. The official commencement address was given by Mr. Bartlett, Jr./Sr. High School social studies teacher. He was assisted by Mr. Notaro, Jr./Sr. High School social studies teacher, who made a surprise appearance.
A steady rain developed during the presentation of diplomas, but it wasn’t enough to dampen spirits. Commencement concluded with a special slideshow and fireworks.
The Class of 2021 thanks all of those who helped make the evening so memorable, including Mr. Darrah and Mrs. Kemp, senior class advisors, Mr. Cardillo and Mr. Cieri, program committee, Board of Education and school administration, Buildings and Grounds Department and Decoration Committee.
Congratulations, Class of 2021!
