While the start of the new school year is still about a month away, excitement is already building at the Primary Elementary School.

Primary Elementary families popped into the “Maine Event” on August 4 to meet Mrs. Maine, the new Primary Elementary School principal.  Mrs. Maine and husband

The one-hour event held outside in front of the school was a chance for students and their families to meet Mrs. Maine before the 2021-22 school year gets underway – and have a little fun. The event included games, face painting, balloon animals, magic tricks, raffles and popsicles for everyone to enjoy.

“Westmoreland has a great feel of community with people who are invested in children,” Mrs. Maine, when asked why she chose the Westmoreland Central School District, said. “I am excited to be part of a great team of committed educators and such a great community!”

Before coming to Westmoreland, Mrs. Maine spent 11 years at the Oneida City School District, mainly as an elementary special education teacher. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in English and Childhood Education in 2010, Master’s degree in Special Education in 2012 and Certificate of Advanced Study in School Building Leadership and School District leadership in 2014 – all from Utica College. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate degree in Special Education, which she expects to complete by the end of this year.

Mrs. Maine is a lifelong resident of the Mohawk Valley, and currently resides in Chittenango with her husband, Chris, chocolate lab, Mia, and cat, Biggie. In her spare time, she loves to read and bike.

“I grew up valuing education,” Mrs. Maine explained. “As a young child, my grandpa fostered a love of reading in me by building a library that we added a book to everyday. I know how lucky I am to have had that experience, and I want to share my love of learning with kids.”

Welcome to Westmoreland, Mrs. Maine!
