Four boys standing behind a Westmoreland Bulldogs banner table with crossed arms

The Edwin J. Wadas Foundation, Inc., a strong supporter of the Westmoreland Central School District’s student-athletes and sports teams, recently funded another upgrade for the Athletic Department.

Athletes behind scorers' table

The foundation donated two new scorers’ tables – one for the Jr./Sr. High School Gym and one for the Upper Elementary School Gym – for basketball and volleyball games. The tables are green and black and feature the school logo, along with “Westmoreland Bulldogs.”

“We are very grateful for the Wadas Foundation’s continued contributions,” Westmoreland Athletic Director Mike Adey said. “The foundation helps us defray costs or purchase items we couldn’t otherwise afford.”

The Edwin J. Wadas Foundation, Inc., through grants, supports school districts, municipalities and non-profits in Herkimer and Oneida Counties that provide amateur athletics for youth ages 5-18. Edwin J. Wadas, better known as “Uncle Ed,” formed the foundation in 1990. Upon his death in 2018, he entrusted the foundation to endure, in perpetuity, so his financial resources could continue to support and enhance youth athletic programs.

For more than 60 years, “Uncle Ed” volunteered as a scorekeeper, announcer, statistician, track and field official and in every other possible capacity in his selfless desire to help young athletes succeed and realize the benefits of participation in athletic programs. He was an outstanding role model and never passed up an opportunity to emphasize sportsmanship, respect for opponents and officials and the value of hard work to all the young athletes he encountered.

Last year, the Edwin J. Wadas Foundation, Inc. donated a basketball shooting machine to Westmoreland. The helpful tool is used by the boys and girls modified, junior varsity and varsity basketball teams during practice.

The Westmoreland Central School District greatly thanks the Edwin J. Wadas Foundation, Inc.!
