Teacher addressing a class

Before Thanksgiving recess, Miss Whittaker’s Jr./Sr. High School chemistry students took a fun break from a math intensive unit to celebrate “Mole Day.”

A “mole” is a unit of measurement used in chemistry. “Mole Day” – officially celebrated on October 23 of every year – is to chemists what “Pi Day” is to mathematicians.  Students playing game

To celebrate, each of Mrs. Whittaker’s students created a “Mole Day” project. Creations ranged from posters to songs to cards, with many including some sort of “pun” about a mole, the animal, and avocados. One student even made mole shaped earrings for Miss Whittaker!

“It’s a great way for students to show off their creativity and make something that links the concepts in their mind, even if it’s in a silly way,” Miss Whittaker said.

Students also played games, took part in a scavenger hunt and competed in the “Mole-lympics.”

Fun was had by all!
