The Tri-M Music Honor Society, a student-run group made up of area high school music students with a mission of helping people through the power of music, participated in “Operation Christmas Child” in December. Twenty-seven Westmoreland Jr./Sr. High School students belong to the honor society.

“Operation Christmas Child” is an annual effort spearheaded by “Samaritan’s Purse,” a not-for-profit in North Carolina. For the effort, the organization collects shoeboxes filled with gifts and sends them to children in need around the world for Christmas. The Tri-M Music Honor Society collected gifts and then made and donated 14 shoeboxes to the cause. The shoeboxes were delivered to 14 children in the Dominican Republic.

Students are selected to the Tri-M Music Honor Society based on their music resume, grade point average, leadership and character. The following Westmoreland Jr./Sr. High School students are in the honor society:
