Three seniors on the Westmoreland Girls Varsity Volleyball team played in one final match before their high school volleyball careers officially came to a close.
Just after the end of the varsity season, seniors Samantha Dee, Madison St. Peter and Mia Lazzaro participated in the “Exceptional Senior” Invitational Volleyball Tournament at Dolgeville High School on February 16. All three were selected to compete by their coach, Cristina Rodenelli. The tournament featured six teams with seniors from several area schools.
“I really enjoyed this season,” Samantha Dee, who plans to attend SUNY Poly in the fall to study community and behavioral health, said. “I feel like all the girls on the team really came together and bonded well. Even though I’m still playing volleyball in college, I will miss the high school atmosphere.”
“I love volleyball, and I’m really, really sad it’s over,” Madison St. Peter, who plans to attend Mohawk Valley Community College in the fall to study human services, said. “I’m going to miss my teammates the most because I’ve been playing with a lot of them since the seventh grade. Through the years, we got to know each other well. Volleyball really brought us together and we had a lot of fun during practices and games.”
“I like playing sports, especially volleyball because I just like being around people that have the same interest as me and being part of a team,” Mia Lazzaro, who plans to attend Herkimer College in the fall for general studies, said. “There was never any bad blood and we always got along.”
The Westmoreland Girls Varsity Volleyball team finished the 2021-22 season with a 10-9 overall record. The Lady Bulldogs lost in the first round of sectionals to Cooperstown, 3-2.
Samantha and Mia plan to try out for the volleyball team at their respective college.
Congratulations to Samantha, Madison and Mia on outstanding volleyball careers!
