Samantha Wessing, Westmoreland Class of 2008, visited the Upper Elementary School’s third and fourth grade students on April 7 to talk about her work as a meteorologist.
Before assuming her current position as Senior Assistant Director of Admissions at Cazenovia College, Wessing was a meteorologist at WUTR-TV and WKTV-TV in Utica. She still serves as a substitute meteorologist at WKTV.
Wessing’s presentation touched on a variety of topics, including the difference between weather and climate, the types of clouds and how a tornado forms. She also discussed her career path and how she produces and presents a forecast on television. Her presentation concluded with taking questions from students.
Mrs. Riggles, K-4 STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) teacher, organized Wessing’s visit – part of a greater effort to increase students’ interest in STEAM and knowledge of women in STEAM careers.
Wessing graduated from SUNY Oswego in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in meteorology and broadcasting/mass communications.
Thank you, Samantha, for spending time with our students!
