2022-23 PROPOSED BUDGET – What You Need to Know
The District budget vote, along with the Board of Education election, will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, from 11:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m., in the Jr./Sr. High School Gym Lobby. If the proposed budget is passed by voters, it will be enacted for the 2022-23 school year. If not passed, the Board of Education can:
· Place a revised budget before district residents for a vote.
· Place the same budget before district residents for a vote.
· Immediately adopt a contingency budget.
Should the proposed budget be defeated and a contingency budget is adopted pursuant to Section 2023 of the Education Law, $168,961 will be eliminated in equipment, salaries, student supplies and additional items to be determined by the Board of Education for the 2022-23 school year.

PUBLIC HEARING
The public hearing on this year’s proposed budget will be on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at 7:00 p.m., in the Jr./Sr. High School Auditorium.
ABSENTEE BALLOTS
Absentee ballots may be obtained at the office of the School District Clerk. Applications for absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk at least seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. A voter may complete an application for an absentee ballot in person at the District Clerk’s office by 3:30 p.m. on the day before the vote. All ballots must be returned to the District Clerk’s office no later than May 17, 2022, at 5:00 p.m., prevailing time.
TO VOTE YOU MUST BE:
-A U.S. citizen.
-At least 18 years of age.
-A resident of the District for at least 30 days prior to the date of the election, and who is not otherwise ineligible to vote under the provisions of section 5-106 of the Election Law.
TO VOTE YOU:
-DO NOT have to be registered to vote.
-DO NOT have to own property.
-DO NOT have to be a parent/guardian or have children in the district.
PROPOSITIONS ON THE BALLOT
Proposition #1 – Budget
RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Westmoreland Central School District in the County of Oneida, State of New York, by and hereby is authorized to expend $24,323,839 for the 2022-2023 school year, and to levy the necessary tax therefore.
*Proposition #2 – School Buses
RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Westmoreland Central School District in the County of Oneida, State of New York, by and hereby is authorized to purchase three (3) full-sized school buses, at an estimated maximum aggregate cost of $137,836 each, for a total of $413,508, or so much therefore as may be necessary, and to levy a tax on the taxable property of the School District.
*The district is on a 10-year bus replacement schedule. When a bus is taken off a route, it is used as a spare and an older spare is traded in.
BOARD OF EDUCATION ELECTION
There are five (5) candidates running to fill three (3) three (3)-year term seats at-large. The candidates will appear on the ballot in the following order:
