The Westmoreland Varsity Baseball team’s quest for a perfect season and section championship are still very much alive!

The now 17-0 and No. 1 seeded Bulldogs cruised past No. 17 seed Alexandria 18-1 in a first round Section III Class C playoff game on May 24 at Westmoreland Jr./Sr. High School.  westmo pitcher

Westmoreland erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the first inning, and never looked back. Anthony Sawanec and Hunter Kierpiec each led the Bulldogs with three RBI. Starting pitcher Caleb Miller pitched four scoreless innings, struck out seven batters and gave up only two hits to earn the win.

The Westmoreland Bulldogs square off against No. 8 Mount Markham (9-9) in a Section III Class C quarterfinal game on Thursday, May 26, at Westmoreland Jr./Sr. High School. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

Mount Markham beat Frankfort-Schuyler in the first round of sectionals, 12-6. While Westmoreland and Mount Markham did not meet during the regular season, Westmoreland played and beat Frankfort-Schuyler twice, 20-0 on April 29 and 15-1 on May 17.

The Westmoreland/Mount Markham winner will play the No. 12 LaFayette/No. 13 Fabius-Pompey winner on Saturday, May 28, at Murnane Stadium, at 7:00 p.m.
