Boys soccer team playing in a game

The Westmoreland-Oriskany Boys Varsity Soccer team’s quest for a section title is still very much alive!

The No. 6 seeded Bulldogs defeated No. 11 seed Cazenovia in the first round of the Section III Class B playoffs 6-1, at home, on October 19.  Team in huddle before game

Senior captain Jack Tamburino led the Bulldogs with three goals and two assists. Senior captain Jesse Sweet had two goals and Sophomore Nathan Clough scored once. Senior David Cronauer made eight saves for Westmoreland-Oriskany.

Alex Dolly scored the lone goal for Cazenovia.

With the win, Westmoreland-Oriskany (15-2) advances to the Section III Class B quarterfinals and will play No. 3 seed Marcellus (14-2-1) on Friday, October 21, at 6:30 p.m. The game is being played at Marcellus.

Marcellus defeated No. 14 seed Little Falls in the first round, 6-1. While Westmoreland-Oriskany and Marcellus did not face each other during the regular season, Westmoreland-Oriskany played Little Falls twice and defeated the Mounties both times, 4-1 on September 12 and 3-0 on September 28.

The Westmoreland-Oriskany/Marcellus winner will play the No. 2 Westhill/No. 7 Central Valley Academy winner on Tuesday, October 25, at 7:00 p.m., at Jordan-Elbridge High School.

Best of luck, Bulldogs!
