Teacher posing with students

Nearly 150 students in grades Pre-K through eight and their parents attended the Zone for Imagination, Innovation and Inspiration’s (Zi3) Halloween Family Night at the Upper Elementary School on October 26.

For the event, each family completed three of four guided STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) activities. The activities were:  Student painting

Halloween Cupcake Decorating – participants created a witch hat, spider or general Halloween-themed cupcake.

Glow Pumpkins – participants primed their pumpkins with white paint and then used glow paint to illustrate a spider, bat, moon and stars, cat or one of their own creations.

Haunted House/Trick-or-Treat Wood Carving – participants painted their wood carving black and added fluorescent background colors and laser cut stickers as decorations.

Witch Gnome – participants stuffed a black sock and added fluorescent bulky yarn for hair, colored a foam ball for a nose and then added a broom to create a witch.

Several teachers and staff members volunteered their time to facilitate sessions at the event. They were:
